Atlanta is a diverse city full of many small businesses, parks, playgrounds, recreational centers, and other attractions. Even locals are constantly finding new ways to spend their free time with friends and family members. If you’re on vacation in Atlanta or are simply looking for things to do in Atlanta and what to do in Atlanta this summer, check out this list that the Atlanta Toulouse Sister City Committee has put together for you!

Five Things to Do in Atlanta for Your Next Day Out

1. The Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta

One of the most popular attractions in Atlanta, the Georgia Aquarium is a sight to behold! Take the kids with you to see hundreds of marine animals, elaborate exhibits, and shows. Seeing the whole aquarium will take you about 2-3 hours, so be sure to bring your best walking shoes. Toddlers 2 and younger can join you for free, and no food or drinks from outside the aquarium are not allowed (except for patrons with food allergies). If you’re trying to avoid the crowds, visit earlier in the day.

2. Zoo Atlanta

One of the best things to do in Atlanta is visiting the Zoo Atlanta. This is another great place to take the kids! Atlanta’s zoo is full of wild animals like the African elephant, African lion, macaws, flamingos, and more that will inspire and teach. As you plan your trip, keep in mind that attractions and rides within the zoo are closed for lunch from 12:30 to 1:30. Special events and shows are not included with the price of admission, and service animals are allowed (but prohibited from certain areas because live, wild animals are present). Depending on the weather, some animals may be put away for their comfort or safety.

3. Illuminarium Atlanta

Are you looking for a unique experience here in Atlanta? The Illuminarium Atlanta is a fully immersive visual, auditory, and sensory show experience; the Illuminarium uses 4k laser projectors, 3-D audio, in-floor vibration, and atmospheric scents to create a 360-degree experience for patrons. The shows offered change year-round, and toddlers ages 2 and younger get in for free.

Interested in a unique nightlife experience? Check out the Illuminarium at night for cocktails!

4. Atlanta Black History Tour

Here at the Atlanta Toulouse Sister Cities Committee, we’re always talking about Atlanta’s iconic and critical black history. Whether you are a local or a tourist, the Atlanta Black History Tour is one of the best things to do in Atlanta: this is an informative, historical experience that will open your mind and bring you to appreciate the difficult way in which our country has evolved. During the tour, you will see the heritage district of Sweet Auburn Avenue, the Civil Rights Headquarters, and the last residence of Dr. Martin Luther King. You will also visit and drive by famous movie and TV filming locations.

5. Atlanta LEGOLAND Discovery Center

Who doesn’t love Legos? We’re sure your family will love visiting the LEGOLAND discovery center here in Atlanta. This giant indoor playground is full of building blocks, rides, and a 4D cinema where you can see some of your favorite LEGO characters. Adults must be accompanied by children to enter, as this attraction is geared towards kids. However, adults will also be enthralled by MINILAND – the recreation of the city of Atlanta – completely build from LEGOs.

We hope this list helps you decide what to do in Atlanta on your next trip here; or, if you live here, reminds you about some of the attractions in Atlanta that you may have forgotten about!
